I was born in Santa Clara, Cuba in 1987. Five years later, after four days and three nights at sea with an assortment of people and animals, I arrived in Key West, Florida. As an independent child, growing up in Miami, I dreamed of nothing but travelling and leaving home. In 2005, I moved to Durham, North Carolina to attend Duke University. That was my portal to England, France, Italy, Spain, and Greece. I loved every minute of it. But four years later, beckoned by my love of family, I returned to Miami.

If my dad hadn’t insisted we go “fishing” in September of 1992, if a Brothers to the Rescue plane hadn’t spotted us four days into our trip, and if the “dry foot, wet foot” law had already existed, I might not be who or where I am today…

This blog has been many things for me throughout the years. Currently, it’s a space to share the things that inspire me or remind me to get grounded and stay in the present moment. If I’ve learned anything from all the mommas, single ladies and wives I call friends or follow on social media, it’s that regular people, leading regular lives, can be inspiring. So maybe sharing what inspires me will inspire another.

Why A Polka Dot Dress? Because Julia Roberts wore it so beautifully and I love polka dots!

I read your article in the Herald today. Wonderful. You sure have come a long way since AP English. I am so happy to see all of the success you have had since graduating from high school.
